Seminar Topic: Modern Periodontal Disease: What You Need to Know

Speaker: Dr. Jill Bashutski

Course Description:

It is well established that periodontal disease is caused by bacterial plaque in a susceptible host.  However, in today’s world, many patients are presenting with periodontal disease that cannot always be explained by their plaque and calculus levels. Food allergies, dental materials, stress, nutritional deficiencies, medications, virulent bacterial strains and genetics are all emerging as causative agents in new manifestations of periodontal disease. This presentation will provide insights into modern forms of periodontal disease, including diagnosis and management strategies.  The course will include a hands-on genetic testing session with specific instruction on available testing options, protocols, interpretation of results, and treatment.

Audience: Dentists

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Identification of alternative causative agents in new manifestations of periodontal disease
  • Provide insights into modern forms of periodontal disease, including diagnosis and management strategies
  • Hands-on genetic testing session to provide instruction on testing options, protocols, interpretation of results and treatment
