Seminar Topic: I have something to tell you...: The Art and Science of Difficult Conversations

Speaker: Dr. Bruce Freeman, DDS, DOrtho, MSc

Course Description:

We all have difficult conversations throughout the day – with our family, colleagues, team members and of course, our patients. Whether it’s saying “no”, or “I'm sorry”, or responding effectively in emergencies, this course will provide the tools so you can communicate in a way that shows an understanding of the neuroscience of communication. Learn why people behave the way they do so that we can decrease our stress and provide our patients with the best possible patient experience.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Communicate with and effectively manage the emergency patient from within your practice or outside your practice
  • Recognize the causes of workplace conflicts
  • Use mindful communication skills to bring upset people to the point of reason
  • Manage reactive emotions (blame, avoidance) during difficult encounters
  • Utilize facilitation techniques for managing difficult conversations

Audience: Full Team
