Seminar Topic: Dental Assistants’ Day: The DA at the Heart of Every Dental Practice

Speaker: Neli Gontier-Bergeron & Lucy Pavao

Dental Assistants are at the heart of every dental practice.  As the right-hand of the dentist, they have their fingers on the pulse of the practice workflow and regularly liaise with all team members.  In fact, they often bridge the two primary functional areas – clinical and administrative – operating with a broad understanding of both areas.  This places them in a critical position within dental practices.  It may also leave them burdened with a vast number of responsibilities which can lead to burnout or disengagement.

This event is designed to bring awareness of the importance of their role within dental practices, acknowledge their contributions, offer them essential learnings that will optimize and streamline many of their responsibilities, bring their processes into compliance, and revitalize their passion for their roles and responsibilities.  It is also designed to broaden the reach of dentalcorp to a cohort of external DAs as Dental Assistants who register for this event will be asked to register/bring “a friend” – another DA from outside the network.  These external DAs will be invited to the luncheon and afternoon portion of the agenda – Communication being the main topic.  This becomes an opportunity for Recruiting to reach out to these individuals and begin the process of engaging them for future roles at a dentalcorp practice in their respective areas.

Registrants/attendees will have the opportunity to participate in activities and learnings that will upskill them in the areas of compliance and communication, helping them improve the quality of patient services at their respective practices.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Improve their IPAC procedures and processes to bring them into compliance with provincial regulations;
  • Understand what is required of them as it relates to proper record-keeping practices and audits;
  • Produce more diagnostically accurate and effective x-rays;
  • Communicate more effectively and with greater empathy and trust with team members and patients alike.

Audience: Dental Assistants
