Course Description:

The importance of pain control for dental procedures cannot be overstated.  This webinar will begin with an overview of the evolution of local anesthetics in dentistry and then participants will learn about the different local anesthetics available in North America with special emphasis on lidocaine and articaine.  How to select an anesthetic according to important properties like onset of action, duration and specific patient needs will be reviewed.

Strategies for minimizing injection pain, including pre-procedural techniques and safety considerations will be discussed.  Finally, a look into future trends in dental anesthesia, highlighting emerging technologies and innovations will be mentioned.

Key Learning Objectives

After this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the unique properties of articaine and how it differs from other local anesthetics
  • Recognize the specific techniques for using articaine in dental procedures, leveraging it’s unique properties to enhance patient care
  • Comprehend the maximum dosages limits for articaine and the vasoconstrictor within the solution, along with potential toxicity concerns
  • Identify and manage interactions between articaine and other medications that patients may be taking, ensuring safe and effective use of the anesthetic
