Course Description:
NOTE: This course is for those already certified to administer Oral Moderate Sedation & Nitrous Oxide. Upon enrolling you will be notified to submit proof of BLS (Basic Life Support) & ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
This course exceeds the RCDSO continuing education requirement of 6 CE hours for practitioners currently administering oral moderate sedation. Safe techniques to expand the use of nitrous oxide oxygen and oral sedatives in your practice will be reviewed. This interactive, hands-on course is customized to participants in attendance to meet their specific learning objectives. Participants are welcome to bring a sedation case for a 360 review with the group and expertise of the instructor. With this course, practitioners can update their knowledge in current best practices, renew confidence in their skills and realize the full potential of sedation in their practice.

Key Learning Objectives
After this session, participants will be able to:
- In-depth review of the RCDSO Sedation Standard of Practice to ensure you are in compliance with provincial regulations
- Implement techniques using nitrous oxide oxygen and/or oral benzodiazepines that produce efficacious sedation for patients of different age groups and dental procedures
- Review patient selection through the patient medical history, physical assessment and dental procedure for oral moderate sedation
- Co-ordinate effective pain management and local anaesthetic techniques to facilitate efficacious sedation
- Review required monitoring techniques and equipment
- Review best practices to optimize patient safety and confidently manage the most common emergencies in oral moderate sedation with an emphasis on airway management
